A stain, now what? Before you start cleaning the stain on your necktie, please check the tail end of the tie. There should be a black label indicating whether the necktie is made of silk, polyester, cotton or wool. Scarves and pashminas also have a black label, indicating what material they are made of. Our laundry and cleaning instructions were written with care and are based on our own expertise. If you follow these instructions, the items you purchased will stay nice for longer and you will enjoy wearing them more.
Necktie silk
Do not wash your silk tie in the washing machine or in lukewarm soapy water. The best way to clean a silk tie is to treat the stain with benzene. Put a small amount of benzene on a clean cloth and hold it against the stain. The benzene will absorb the stain. Notice! Do not rub! Is the stain still not out of your tie? Put your tie rolled up in a jar with a layer of benzene. Put a lid on it and shake. Let the tie soak in it for about a day. Take your tie out and hang it by the tip of the tail (narrow part) in the open air. This way the benzene will dissipate and the tie will dry up wrinkle-free. Still want to smooth out your tie? Then iron it on the lowest setting and with a tea towel over it to keep the silk from melting. Do not iron over the passantino (loop at the back) to avoid shiny stains on the front. Does the above washing instructions not help? You can also take your tie to the dry cleaners to have it cleaned. Note that steaming is not good for a silk tie, but one cleaning will survive the tie.
Necktie polyester
A polyester tie is easy to clean. Make lukewarm soapy water with detergent intended for delicate laundry. Wash the necktie by hand and rinse it clean. Let the tie dry outdoors by hanging it by the tail of the tie (narrowest part of the tie). If you want to iron your tie afterwards, you can do so on the lowest setting of your iron.
Necktie cotton
A cotton tie is easy to clean. Make lukewarm soapy water with detergent intended for delicate laundry. Wash the necktie by hand and rinse it clean. Let the necktie dry outdoors by hanging it by the tail of the necktie (narrowest part of the necktie). If you want to iron your necktie afterwards, feel free to do so.
Necktie wool
A wool tie is easy to clean. Make lukewarm suds with a detergent intended for wool. Wash the tie by hand and rinse it clean. Put your iron on the "wool" setting.
silk scarf / Men's scarf silk
Silk is a natural fiber. A silk scarf is a delicate garment that requires special care when washing. It is best to wash a silk scarf with a soft - not alkaline - detergent, such as baby soap or mild soap. Do not use bleach or fabric softener. Wash it by hand with water no warmer than 30 degrees. Wash it gently in soapy water, do not rub or wring. Rinse it gently but thoroughly in lukewarm water. Dry your scarf outdoors or flat on a towel to maintain its shape. Do not put your silk scarf in the dryer! Ironing is best done when the scarf is still slightly moist and at a low temperature. Many irons have a special "silk" setting. By following these steps, you can safely and effectively wash your silk scarf and keep it in good condition for as long as possible. You can also always take a silk scarf to the dry cleaner for cleaning.

The above washing instructions also apply to scarves in (mix) qualities such as:
58% acrylic / 18% polyester / 13% viscose / 7% wool / 4% alpaca
56% acrylic / 29% modal / 7% wool / 4% alpaca / 4% viscose

Sort socks by color and material. Wash white socks separately from colored socks to avoid discoloration. Check the label of the socks for washing instructions. For example, some socks should be washed at a cold temperature, while others can be washed at a warmer temperature.
